Fellow Club Members:
The long wait for Florida football is almost over with 38 days remaining as I write this, till we play Miami of Ohio. It seems like forever since we were in New Orleans beating up on those mighty Bearcats from Cincinnati. With media days come and gone, the media boys have predicted Florida will play Alabama again for the SEC title, with ‘Bama winning it all. I agree that we will probably see ‘Bama in Atlanta, but not with the outcome!
The Florida football team will officially start the quest for another National title on August 5th when 2 a days start. Last year practice was open for 2 days, so if you want to see some action before kickoff, I suggest you go out early. It is going to seem a little strange not having, you know Superman out there running the show. This is now John Brantley’s team, and by all accounts he is ready to step in and lead the team. He will have a solid offensive line in front of him, along with very talented group of running backs. We will have to wait and see what receivers step up, but with new wide receivers Coach Azzanni leading this group he will get 100% out of them. On the defensive side of the ball the D-line should be a force to be reckoned with a solid group returning. First year defensive coordinator Teryl Austin may change a few things on defense, but will more than likely use a lot of schemes that had proven results under former D-coordinator Charlie Strong. All in all Gator fans should have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
We will be starting our weekly meetings on August 12th and have a good group of speakers lined up to come speak at the club. To get info on speakers, and upcoming events it is always good to go to the website www.fgtc.org to get the latest updates.
On August 14th we will be holding our 15th annual Family Day at Ginnie Springs. There will be a horseshoe tournament, a barbeque lunch provided by the Gator Chefs, games for the kids and of course the springs to go cool off in. If you are coming, please feel free to bring a covered dish to add to the bounty, as you all know this group can put back some food! This year we are also providing an event shirt to the first 240 people to register at the pavilion. There you will get a numbered wristband for your meal, and also for door prizes to be given out after lunch. We will also have a 50/50 raffle so don’t forget to get some raffle tickets. Please mention you are with the club when you are paying entry fee so you can get your club discount.
As your President, I want you to know that your Board of Directors has been working tirelessly to make this a special year for all of its members, so if you get a chance just give them a thank you for all the time they donate to make this the best Gator Club around.
Be safe and Go Gators!
