President's March Message

I’d like to thank all those who showed up at our February meeting to renew their membership, purchase season tickets or to just have some camaraderie with fellow club members. Kevin Brockway, beat writer for the Men's Basketball Team, was our speaker and he did a great job of giving us as much info as he could about our #1 ranked Gators. It's great to get speakers like Kevin to come speak to us and share stories we would otherwise never know about. Speaking of our # 1 ranked Gators, how awesome was it for these guys to go 18-0 in the conference this year? First team to ever do that in the SEC! What a special group of players that we've been fortunate enough to follow the past 4 years. We may not have any lottery picks on this team, but we have a great coach who knows how to build a "team" instead of loading up on "one and done's". Let's root these guys on all the way to Dallas!!

There are 3 events coming up that everyone needs to mark down on their calendars: Luau at the Lake, the annual Golf Tournament and the annual Fishing Tournament. The Luau at the Lake will be held on Saturday, April 26th from noon until dusk at the Kiwanis Beach Club on Lake Weir in Marion County. This will be a great event for the club with a live band, plenty of awesome food, an cash bar, and lots of games for the kids (as well as adults). The Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 17th at Ironwood Golf Course in Gainesville. We will have a shotgun start at 8:30 am with a lunch and raffle afterwards. Start getting your teams together and turned in to Terry Suggs (his e-mail address is teke00@msn.com).We·re looking for a record turnout this year! The Fishing Tournament will be held at the Plantation on Crystal River on the weekend of June 20th through the 22nd. This is a fantastic venue and should be a great weekend for fishing. We will have cookouts both Friday and Saturday nights, as well as Keith's awesome raffle. Please contact Kip Mueller (his email address is kip.mueller@centurylink.com) to enter the tournament. For those just wanting to get away for a relaxing weekend, the Plantation offers 27 holes of golf as well as a great pool area right on the river-the views are amazing! Please visit our web site (FGTC.org) for more info on these great events, as well as other info about our club.

As always, it's great to be a Florida Gator!! We have 5 different teams ranked #1 in the country in their respective sports, baseball season is in full swing and spring football is getting ready to start, culminating with the Orange & Blue game on Saturday, April 12th. Be sure to bring your club membership card to that and you'll be admitted free. Hope to see everyone at this month's meeting on Thursday night, March 27th - Shannon Snell will be our speaker.
